REGISTRATION

Below is a list of three essentials that must be taken care of by the parent or guardian for all swimmers every year.

1.      Registration Form.  The registration form is available in the Monthly Kingsmill Neighborhood

Newsletter or can be downloaded directly from www.kingsmillsharks.com.  It is kept on file and used to give the coaches and supervising parents contact information for each swimmer.

2.      Dues.   Dues for the 2008 season are $80 if paid by the Early Deadline of Friday June 1st.   Swimmers may, and are encouraged to join the team after June 1st but must pay the full registration fee of $90.

A special exception may be made to refund a portion of a swimmer’s dues ($50) if he/she withdraws from the team prior to June 15th.   This allows first time swimmers the chance to get involved with the team and not feel obligated to the team for financial reasons.

No refunds will be issued after June 15th.

3.      VPSU Waiver.   Every swimmer must have a VPSU waiver form signed by a parent or legal guardian prior to the first meet.  A link to the VPSU Waiver can be found on the KingsmillSharks.com website.  They will also be available from the Secretary/Treasurer at Family Fun Night.  Signed waivers must be returned to Secretary/Treasurer.

Furthermore, any swimmer who qualifies for the Championship Meet will need an additional waiver signed later in the season.  Those waivers will be delivered to the competing swimmers prior to the Championship Meet.

A swimmer is considered registered when…

·A REGISTRATION FORM HAS BEEN COMPLETED

·A WAIVER IS SIGNED & SUBMITTED BY THE PARENT OR GUARDIAN

·DUES ARE PAID

TEAM COMMUNICATION

1.      Website- www.KingmillSharks.com.  This is our main method of communication.  Parents and swimmers are encouraged to check the website often for updates.

Information regarding the meets, work assignments, contact numbers and the team roster can all be found here.  The Kingsmill Sharks Team is a member of the VPSU (Virginia Peninsula Swim Union).  Their website is www.VPSU.com and can be used for further resources.

2.      Mounts Bay Pool- Check the Shark Message Board at Mounts Bay Pool for periodic updates and information.

3.      Family Folders- File Boxes with your family folder will be located at the Mounts Bay lifeguard desk.  Check often for the latest forms, info, ribbons, etc.

4.      The Black Book- The Black Book is found at the Mounts Bay lifeguard desk.  There is a page for each of the meets.  If your swimmer will be missing a meet, you need to sign him/her out of the meet on the appropriate page.  Please sign the book at least one week in advance of any absence.  The coaching staff will be monitoring this book.

5.      e-mail-  The President will be sending out frequent e-mail blasts to the team. Check your e-mail often.

PARENT WORK ASSIGNMENTS

Season Meets- This is a team that thrives on parent involvement.  All parents are asked to volunteer at some level for the team.  Without your help the team could not continue to thrive.  For this reason, all work assignments are Mandatory. A hard copy of the work assignments will be distributed at Family Fun Night (6/13).  Work assignments can also be found on the website and posted on the message board at Mounts Bay Pool.  If you cannot fulfill your work assignment it is YOUR responsibility to switch with another parent and inform the Team VP of the change.  The team is not responsible for finding a substitute for you.  If you no do not show up for a work assignment, you will be assigned a make-up work assignment for the next meet in which you are not already scheduled to work.  If you do not show up twice, your swimmer will sit out and not be allowed to swim in the next meet.

Summer Awards and Championship Meet.  All parents of swimmers attending either or both of these meets WILL BE assigned a work assignment for that meet.

FAMILY FUN NIGHT

Friday June 13th

This is a family event which includes a potluck dinner, time trials (a practice meet), and games for the kids. This event provides an opportunity for new parents and swimmers to familiarize themselves with meet dynamics before an actual meet. A packet will be distributed to your family that will include meet schedule and work assignments.  Every family should make an effort to attend.

MEETS

1.      Time- Meets start promptly at 6:00 pm.  Coach Chris will inform the swimmers what time they will need to arrive for warm-ups the morning of the meet.  Check the website for additional updates.

2.      Directions- Directions to all pools can be found on the website.

3.      Weather- In cases of inclement weather, a new VPSU rule allows for meets to be cancelled at 5:30pm.  We will make every effort to disseminate this information to the team as soon as possible, however most families will already be at the pool for warm-ups.

NEW NEWS FOR OLD SHARKS

1.       If your swimmer either chooses to swim in the Summer Awards Meet or qualifies for the Championship Meet, YOU WILL NEED TO SIGN THEM UP FOR THE MEET IN THE BLACK BOOK.  THIS IS A NEW POLICY.  Previously, all swimmers who qualified for these meets were automatically signed up.

2.       If your swimmer is going to swim in either The Championship Meet or the Summer Awards Meet, you will be assigned a work assignment for that meet.

3.       Work assignments- If you do not show up for a work assignment, you will be scheduled for a make-up assignment during the next meet in which you are not already scheduled to work.  If you do not show up twice, your swimmer will be asked to sit out the next meet.

4.       Work Assignments- We have now implemented a new job called the FLEX POSITION.  This is a required assignment like every other meet assignment.  You will be given your job the night of the meet.  We developed this position to minimize the need for parents who were not originally scheduled to work from being asked to cover for parents who don’t show up.
